Anderson Community Schools Substitute Custodian Arrested For Child Solicitation

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

DEVELOPING STORY

We first learned about Thomas Lane from a concerned parent that approached us about a custodian that would float between various schools across the Anderson Community School system. She intercepted a very disturbing conversation between her 11-year-old daughter and Mr. Lane, where Lane was sending inappropriate pictures. The mother of the child, who is remaining anonymous in this news coverage, mentioned that he may have done this with other children in the community and is asking parents of children of the Anderson Community School System to check their devices and speak to their children.

Thomas Joseph Lane is being held without bond in the Madison County Jail. He has been arrested for child solicitation. We asked Brad Meadows, the director of district and community engagement, about these allegations and he released the following statement:

"Mr. Lane was employed at Anderson Community Schools (ACS) as a substitute custodian. At the moment we were first made aware of the allegations against Mr. Lane his supervisor immediately had him come to the ACS central office and turn in his keys. Since that time, and throughout this investigation, he will not be called to work as a substitute custodian or permitted access to any of our school buildings. Because the allegations involve a child under the age of 18 we also immediately reported the information we had received to the Department of Child Services and the Anderson Police Department."

Any further information regarding Lane should be directed to the Anderson Police Department.
