ALEXANDRIA-A combine harvester caught fire this evening, prompting a response from two local Fire Departments. The Alexandria Fire Department and the East Madison Fire Territory: Richland Station responded to the 600blk of W. State Road 128 for a working commercial fire shortly after 5 pm tonight. Luckily the combine was not near any structure when it caught fire.
There were no reports of any injuries or loss of land or product produced by the farm, per an unnamed party on-site that spoke with the MCCNN. It appears that the combine was a total loss. Combine Harvesters, for example, the John Deere X9 1100, range in price from $670,000-$750,000 for used machines and $900,000-$1,000,000+ for new machines. As with most farm machinery, the price difference is due to factors such as the number of hours the combine has in its odometer. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and is still under investigation. The Alexandria Police Department was also briefly on-scene.
