Troops from Ft. Campbell, 101st Airborne deploying to Europe amid Russia tensions

Fort Campbell, KY.--Members with the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell will deploy to Europe to support NATO allies and partners as tensions continue between Russia and a potential invasion of Ukraine.
According to a release from the U.S. Army, troops will support Task Force Dragon and join elements of the 18th Airborne Corps already in the region.

“Fort Campbell units are always prepared to deploy worldwide on short notice to conduct contingency operations in support of our national security objectives. Preparations for this deployment have been underway for several weeks and our Soldiers are ready. They will provide valuable support for our higher headquarters and reassure our Polish Allies at this critical moment,” said Lt. Col. Kari Mcewen, 101st Abn. Div. public affairs officer.
According to an Associated Press report on Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the country will enter into talks with the U.S. and NATO along with a partial troop withdrawal from drills near Ukraine. Russia has deployed over 130,000 troops near Ukraine in recent weeks.
No specific deployment day has been announced for the Ft. Campbell and 101st soldiers.
